JOINING THE GROUP

Every child who joins has some apprehension, which we can alleviate when they attend their first few meetings. Your child will be invited to attend four or so meetings to confirm that they want to join us. You, as parents & guardians, will probably be asked not to attend these initial meetings, as your child may feel inhibited or dependant and not join in with the rest of the Section. There may, of course, be special reasons why your child needs additional supervision; please do not hesitate to contact us. During this period, you are under no obligations to the Group; you do not pay subscriptions or buy the uniform. We will need you to complete a simple form listing the child’s and your contact details, together with medical issues and allergies. Once we are all happy with the prospect of joining, we will talk you through purchasing the uniform, our subscriptions and will be happy to answer any other questions that come to mind.

INVESTITURE

Once a young person is ready to join, they are invested in a simple ceremony, which is held at the end of a meeting. Your child, in uniform, will be asked to step forward: the Leader will recite the Promise line by line and your child will repeat it. Immediately after this they will be presented with their Group badges to sew on and scarf to wear for their first full meeting.
